Fluid Mechanics Research Group
About the Lab
- The group conducts research in energy, aero/hydrodynamics, incompressible and compressible flow, and fundamental fluid mechanics.
- In the area of aerodynamics and hydrodynamics, the group's research focuses on design of wind and tidal turbine blades to improve efficiency.
- The group's energy research focuses on technical assessment and design of energy systems including renewable energy conversion, alternative energy conversion, and building energy efficiency.
- In the field multiphase flow, the group's research focuses on modeling of free surface flow, liquid-gas and gas-gas two-phase flow in refrigeration systems, subsurface flow interactions of wave devices, and pumps and pump systems design.
- Other related research are also occasionally carried out such as simulations of air flow inside rooms and air conditioned vehicles, structural design of wind and tidal turbine blades transition from laminar to turbulent flow, wind turbine siting and farm layout, and wind, wave and tidal current resource assessment.
